Olivia Rodrigo recently announced the release of her second studio album Guts, and it didn’t take her long to give us a taste of things to come. Get ready to sink your teeth into her new music with the biting new single “Vampire”.
Rodrigo joined forces with Petra Collins, who previously directed visuals for her singles “Good 4 U” and “Brutal”, to bring this music video to life. The visual shows Rodrigo performing the song during an award ceremony before being hit by a falling light and making her escape. The video is filled with vampire references “without being too on the nose”, just like the song itself.
“Writing this song helped me sort through lots of feelings of regret, anger, and heartache. It’s one of my favorite songs on the album and it felt very cathartic to finish. I’m so happy it’s in your hands now and I hope it helps u deal with any bloodsuckers in your life,” explained Rodrigo on social media.
“Vampire” was released as the lead single from Rodrigo’s upcoming sophomore studio album Guts, set to be released on June 30. She said that she wrote most of the album during a time filled with lots of confusion, mistakes, awkwardness, and good old-fashioned teen angst, which are all natural parts of growing up.
