One Day at a Time had a really bumpy ride after being canceled by Netflix and picked up by Pop TV, but the team behind the beloved sitcom is prospering despite the obstacles. They’re currently plotting an animated special that should air this spring.

Season 4 of One Day at a Time premiered on Pop on March 24th, but its production was brought to a halt before it aired due to the coronavirus crisis. Six episodes were filmed so far and the masterminds behind it are currently working on a fully-animated new episode.

Showrunner Gloria Calderón Kellett described the upcoming animated special as an exciting opportunity to present the Alvarez family in a colorful new way.

“As we all know, it’s hard to keep One Day at a Time off the air. During this unprecedented time, we wanted to find a way to keep our family – on camera and behind the scenes – together and create more entertaining content for our fans who are self-distancing at home,” said Kellett in a statement.
