Only Murders in the Building premiered with a bang on Hulu last week, and viewers were definitely taking notice. The first three episodes of this rookie series really killed it and scored the most-watched comedy premiere in Hulu history.
As usual, Hulu did not provide any specific viewership numbers and they’re basing this record on the “total number of distinct, individual users who watched any episode of the series”, according to The Wrap.
It’s not difficult to see how Only Murders in the Building managed to become such a huge hit on Hulu. Its star-studded cast is led by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, and Hulu dropped several teasers leading up to its release to create the buzz. Its story is also pretty topical and it centers on three true-crime podcast enthusiasts, who decide to record their own podcast after a murder occurs in their building.
This is only one of the recent viewership records set at Hulu—Nine Perfect Strangers recently had the most-watched premiere for the Hulu original series, while Vacation Friends had the best opening weekend for a Hulu original film.
