We’ve seen Oppenheimer dominate several ceremonies since the start of awards season, and it’s showing no signs of stopping! Christopher Nolan’s latest film exploded at the Critics’ Choice Awards and took home eight awards by the end of the night, including best picture.

Oppenheimer was one of the films competing for the coveted best picture trophy, and it defeated the likes of American Fiction, Barbie, The Color Purple, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Past Lives, Poor Things, and Saltburn to take it home.

It also came out victorious in seven more categories – best director (Nolan), best supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr.), best acting ensemble, best cinematography, best editing, best score, and best visual effects.

Barbie was right behind with six awards, after coming into the night with 18 nods. Most notably, it won the award for best comedy, beating tough competition in American Fiction, Bottoms, The Holdovers, No Hard Feelings, and Poor Things.

FX’s The Bear and Netflix’s Beef led the way on the TV side, with four awards each, including the best comedy series and best limited series, respectively. The final season of HBO’s Succession was right behind with three awards, including the best drama series.

The 2024 Critics’ Choice Awards took place on January 14 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, with Chelsea Handler hosting for the second time.
