Rumors about a potential Outlander sequel have been circling around for a few months and Starz finally made things official. Outlander: Blood of My Blood is currently in development and it will center on the love story between Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser.

Kathryn Busby, the president of original programming at Starz, said they’re thrilled to continue their creative partnership with showrunner Matthew B. Roberts, and executive producers Maril Davis, and Ronald D. Moore, as they continue to bring their excellent vision and creativity to this new series.

“Outlander is a riveting show that from season to season has captured the hearts of its fans around the world. We are excited to peel back the layers of this vibrant world to bring our audience the origin of where it all began,” said Busby in a statement.

This announcement comes a few months after Outlander author Diana Gabaldon confirmed she’s writing a prequel book about Jamie’s parents. In addition to writing novels that inspired the franchise, she also serves as consulting producer.

The sixth season of Outlander ended its run in May this year, and the next chapter is already on the way. Starz renewed the series for a 16-episode Season 7, based on Gabaldon’s book An Echo in the Bone.
