When Taylor Sheridan started plotting 1923, he had a two-season arc in mind, and he’s officially making it happen. Paramount+ has ordered a second season of the latest Yellowstone prequel starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

1923 centers on an older generation of the Dutton family, led by the patriarch of the Dutton ranch Jacob (Ford) and his wife Cara (Mirren). The series shows the family facing many hardships during the 20s, from prohibition, drought, and the early stages of the Great Depression.

In addition to Ford and Mirren in the lead roles, the series also stars Brandon Sklenar, Julia Schlaepfer, Jerome Flynn, Darren Mann, Isabel May, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Michelle Randolph, and Timothy Dalton.

The show’s renewal doesn’t come as a shocker, given its instant success. It scored Paramount+’s biggest debut ever following its premiere on December 18, attracting 7.4 million viewers in both linear and streaming telecasts.

Renewal of 1923 also doesn’t come as a shocker since Taylor Sheridan always envisioned it as a two-season series with eight episodes each. He’s currently developing another Yellowstone spinoff 6666, taking place in the present day on the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, set to premiere later this year.
