Gang, we probably should have seen this coming all along!
Any Harry Potter fan worth their Butterbeer knows that J.K. Rowling is a huge fan of Latin, having employed its use in many spells throughout the books.
For example, Lumos is literally Latin for “light” and expelliarmus means “expel weapon”, while Remus Lupin’s name is derived from one of the Roman twins who was raised by a she-wolf and the Latin term for “of a wolf”.
Perhaps though, we should have seen the great reveal behind “Nagini” coming…
Only for around twenty years. https://t.co/gZadgWVREN

Nagini is a Sanskrit name and actually describes a half-woman, half-snake creature from Indian mythology.
Which fits perfect if you’ve seen the latest trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald which reveals that the terrifying snake was originally a woman — played by Claudia Kim — who is a Maledictus meaning a human who slowly transforms into an animal as a result of a blood curse.
By the time Nagini meets Harry and his friends and becomes a Horcrux for Voldemort, she is completely a reptile — both in body and mind.
They're different conditions. Maledictuses are always women, whereas werewolves can be either sex. The Maledictus carries a blood curse from birth, which is passed down from mother to daughter. https://t.co/wYfvPeQFRW
