Disney+ made a surprising decision to release Percy Jackson and the Olympians one day earlier, and this strategy certainly worked. The premiere episode of this fantasy series scored the top Disney Branded Television premiere of all time with 13.3 million views.

Percy Jackson hit Disney+ on December 19, one day earlier than expected. The show’s first episode made quite a splash across Disney+ and Hulu and attracted a total of 13.3 million views, breaking the record for the biggest debut for a Disney Branded Television series.

According to its official synopsis, Percy Jackson and the Olympians “tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who’s just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt.” It’s based on Rick Riordan’s hit book series, and he co-created its TV adaptation alongside Jonathan E. Steinberg.

Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri lead the show’s star-studded cast, which also includes Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jay Duplass, and Lance Reddick.

Following the two-episode premiere on December 19, the remaining episodes of the show’s eight-part season will stream weekly on Disney+.
