Big screen fairytales are just a hop skip and a jump from small screen supernatural fantasies,

Variety reports that Peter Dinklage is attached to star in Sony’s Rumpelstiltskin feature.

The Game of Thrones star has been tapped to star and produce the big screen adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairytale.

While plot details are scarce, it is known that the film will focus on the mythical character played by Dinklage.

Rumpelstiltskin was first introduced by the Brothers Grimm in their 1812 collection Children’s and Household Tales. It tells the story of a miller who lied to the king telling him that his daughter can spin straw into gold. The king locks his daughter in a tower room demanding she spin straw into gold by morning or else… Rumpelstiltskin comes to the daughter’s aid helping her spin the straw into riches in order to avoid her father’s wrath but soon enough Rumpelstiltskin’s true colors show cosine the girl more than she bargained for as the imp-like creature demands her first-born child as payment.

Patrick Ness and Karen Rosenfelt will pen the script and Matt Smith and David Alpert, David Ginsberg, and Josh Weinstock are producing the project that is still in development.

This isn’t Dinklage’s first post GoT gig. He is also attached to star in the comedy “O’Lucky Day.
