If you’ve been wondering who’s going to host the Emmy Awards this year, we finally have the answer – but it’s probably not what you’ve expected. Like the Oscars before them, this prestigious ceremony will proceed without a host.

The Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony is scheduled to air on September 22nd on Fox. The network’s CEO Charlie Collier discussed the upcoming ceremony during the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour and explained their decision to go hostless this time around.

“It’s our job to assess how to elevate the program… and what’s interesting about this year is how many amazing shows we’re saying goodbye to… If you have a host and opening number, that’s 15 to 20 minutes you don’t have to salute the shows,” said Collier.

He explained they’ll use the extra time to honor such shows as Game of Thrones, Empire, Veep and The Big Bang Theory, but this isn’t the only reason why they decided to ditch the host this year. The network also paid attention to the success of this year’s Oscars and came to the conclusion that this was the right step to take.
