The rumors were true. After months of speculation, the engagement between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was officially announced by Clarence House on Monday. The news has been revealed on official Twitter account of Kensington Palace.

Clarence House also issued a brief statement about the couple’s engagement, revealing that the wedding will take place in Spring of 2018.

“His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle. The wedding will take place in Spring 2018. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course. His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month. Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle’s parents. The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.”

Following the announcement, the couple appeared in front of media where Meghan showed off her engagement ring. According to the information provided to the media, Prince Harry designed the ring himself using the diamonds which belonged to his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle started dating in July 2016, but tried to keep their relationship hidden from the public. They appeared in public for the first time together in September of 2017, and after the appearance, the sources close to the couple claimed the engagement isn’t far away. This became obvious when Prince Harry introduced Meghan to his grandmother Queen Elisabeth II in October.

The interesting thing about the couple is that Prince Harry had a crush on Meghan after he became a fan of the TV show Suits. This was two years before he even met her. Katie Nicholl, the royal commentator, revealed this information in the documentary When Harry Met Meghan: A Royal Romance.
