Alfred Hitchcock gave us one of his most iconic movies with Vertigo, and its remake is on the way 65 years later. Paramount Pictures acquired the rights for the classic psychological thriller as a potential starring vehicle for Robert Downey Jr.

The original Vertigo starred James Stewart and Kim Novak and it gained recognition as a masterpiece in the past few decades, despite being met with mixed reactions upon its release. It centered on a former San Francisco police detective, who becomes obsessed with the hauntingly beautiful woman he has been hired to trail.

Paramount Pictures is plotting this project alongside Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan Downey via their Team Downey moniker, with John Davis and John Fox also producing via Davis Entertainment. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has been tapped to write the script, shortly after news broke that he’s writing an untitled Star Wars film for Lucasfilm.

Robert Downey Jr. kept a relatively low profile following his departure as Iron Man/Tony Stark from the MCU with the final role in Avengers: Endgame. His last movie Dolittle was a critical and commercial failure, but he’ll get a chance to redeem himself in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film Oppenheimer later this year.
