The Smurfs Movie was one of the brand-new projects announced during Paramount Pictures’ CinemaCon presentation, and its cast will be pretty epic. Rihanna showed up at CinemaCon to announce she’ll be voicing Smurfette in the new adaptation.

According to Paramount Animation’s head Ramsey Naito, the new film will explore themes of identity and ask the central question: “What is a Smurf?” Chris Miller is on board to direct, while Pam Brady wrote the script based on the characters and works of Peyo.

In addition to voicing Smurfette, Rihanna will also produce the movie and write original songs. She’s no stranger to voice acting, and she previously provided a voiceover from DreamWorks’ Home in 2015, in addition to starring in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Ocean’s 8, and Guava Island.

Rihanna will continue the great tradition of the world’s biggest pop stars voicing this iconic animated character. Smurfette was voiced by Katy Perry in Sony Pictures’ The Smurfs and The Smurfs 2, which earned over $900 million globally. Demi Lovato also voiced the character in the 2017 animated movie Smurfs: The Lost Village.

Paramount’s The Smurfs Movie will be released on February 14, 2025, and the rest of the voice cast is yet to be announced.
