Rihanna is fresh off the success of her Super Bowl halftime show and it seems she has a few more surprises up her sleeve. Her fans spent years bagging the singer to drop her ninth studio album and she recently revealed she wants to release it later this year.

Rihanna sat down with British Vogue for an in-depth interview and one of the questions that popped up concerned her next studio album. The singer said she’s ready to release new music and that she really wants it to be this year.

“Honestly, it’d be ridiculous if it’s not this year. But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos. And I need the right background music with the visuals. I can’t just go shoot a video to me talking,” she explained.

Rihanna also revealed that one of the reasons why she kept her fans waiting for so long is the pressure she put on herself following the success of Anti in 2016. She described it as her “most brilliant album”, but she’s now aware that she can no longer wait for her music to “feel right and perfect and better” because it might take forever.

Even though she hasn’t released a new studio album in seven years, Rihanna found huge success with her latest song “Lift Me Up” from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack, which received an Academy Award nomination for the best original song.
