It’s been a while since we’ve seen Rita Moreno on the big screen, but that’s about to change pretty soon. After appearing in the remake of West Side Story later this year, the EGOT-winning actress is also set to star in the dark comedy The Prank.

The Maureen Bharoocha-directed film will focus on a physics teacher, Mrs. Wheeler, who’s falsely accused of the murder of a missing high school student as a prank pulled by two students she failed on a test. In addition to Moreno, this dark comedy will also star Connor Kalopsis (Outmatched) and Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever).

Mrs. Wheeler has been described as an “imperious, demanding, insulting instructor”. “Rita Moreno is a force of nature and an icon who continues to redefine herself. Her brilliant comedic mind lends itself to the perfect Mrs. Wheeler, a character we have never seen her play, and one that will no doubt surprise audiences,” said the director.

Moreno is fresh off her role in the critically acclaimed sitcom One Day at a Time, and she most recently starred on TV shows Carmen Sandiego, Bless This Mess, and Jane the Virgin.
