Robbie Williams reveals the real reason he joined the X Factor.
Simon Cowell has been asking Robbie Williams to join the show for years. He has a vast knowledge of music and the industry and he has a big following and huge personality so it seems like a natural fit. But why has the Take That star only joined the panel now?
“Genuinely it was the Ayda card, genuinely,” he said on Loraine last Friday.
“You know, I thought about doing it often but I have been really really busy with my own career, and then Ayda got a call in the car from Nigel the producer of the show and said do you think Rob will do it if you do it too?
“And instantly, I was like that makes complete sense – I’m totally in.”
“Do you know the amazing thing is, since starting to do the show, I can’t believe I haven’t done it before!”
Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field are the new judges alongside One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson.
The X Factor returns to ITV at 8 pm on September 1.
