It’s an end of an era.
Multiple sources report that Robert De Niro and wife, Grace Hightower have decided to go their separate ways after more than 20 years together.
A source close to the couple told PEOPLE that the two have separated and are living apart. “Sometimes things don’t work out the way you hope or want them to,” the source added. According to Page Six, who was the first to break the news, it was the 75-year-old actor who has moved out of the family home and is no longer living with his wife or their seven-year-old daughter Helen.
The couple met in London in the early ‘90s and after dating for a decade they married. The two share two children together: 20-year-old son Elliott and daughter Helen. De Niro has four other children from previous relationships.
This isn’t De Niro and Hightower’s first separation. In 1999 De Niro filed for divorce but in a shocking twist of events the two decided to remain together and not sign the divorce papers. In 2004 they renewed their vows surrounded by family, friends and a swarm of A-listers at their New York State property.
