Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan Downey are set to bring a documentary series about artificial intelligence on YouTube Red through their production company Team Downey. The yet-untitled docu-series will have eight hour-long episodes with Robert Downey Jr. serving as a host and narrator. It is scheduled for release at some point in 2019.

“Robert and I share a curiosity for A.I., a complicated and often polarizing subject,” said Susan Downey about the project. “Our aim is to explore A.I. through a lens of objectivity and accessibility, in a thoroughly bold, splashy and entertaining way. We’re thrilled to bring this project to life along with Network Entertainment, Sonar, and YouTube Red.”

According to YouTube Red, the docu-series will examine the impact of artificial intelligence and feature interviews with various experts specializing in the fields of science, technology, engineering, medicine, and futurism.

“We are excited to be in business with the smart creative minds behind this innovative new series,” added YouTube head of original content Susanne Daniels. “There is so much to discover, and this series will take us on a fascinating journey as we explore the exciting developments in the world of A.I. and glimpse into the future.

This will be the first docu-series project for YouTube Red, who has primarily offered comedy, drama and reality series until now. The streaming service recently announced a handful of other upcoming projects including adult animated series Dallas & Robo, The Edge of Seventeen spin-off series, and dark comedy Widow while also handing out season two order for Karate Kid reboot Cobra Kai.

Robert Downey Jr. and Team Downey, on the other side, are currently working on the movie The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle and Perry Mason revival on HBO.
