You might want to press pause on that sunset, because Robert Redford might not be going into retirement just yet.

The 82-year-old announced in August that his most recent film, The Old Man & the Gun, would be his last.

“The truth is that I really do feel that it’s time for me to move into retirement. I’ve been doing this since I was 21. I’ve put my soul and heart into it over the years. I thought, ‘That’s enough. Why don’t you quit while you’re a little bit ahead? Don’t wait for the bell to toll. Just get out.’ So I felt my time had come and I couldn’t think of a better project to go out on than this film,” he said at the film’s world premiere.

Speaking at the movie’s New York City premiere, the Oscar winner told Variety, “That was a mistake. I should never have said that. If I’m going to retire, I should just slip quietly away from acting, but I shouldn’t be talking about it because I think it draws too much attention in the wrong way. I want to be focused on this film and the cast.”

“Keep the mystery alive,” he smirked.

Indeed.
