Disney’s live-action Pinocchio may have found its director.

According to Variety, Robert Zemeckis is in early talks to direct. Should he join the project, Zemeckis is set to take over from Paddington director, Paul King, who had originally been tapped to direct. King exited the project due to unknown reasons at the beginning of the year.

According to sources, the prolific director was reluctant to board a new project before his current feature, The Witches, was further along in the production process.

Chris Weitz will produce with Andrew Miano through their Depth of Field banner. Weitz is also penning the live-action adaptation of the 1940 Disney classic about a living wooden puppet who must prove himself worthy to become a real boy.

Pinocchio is yet another animated classic set to be given the live-action adaptation treatment. It follows this year’s Aladdin and The Lion King.
