For the first time since her exit, Ruby Rose has shared the reason she left her role as the star of Batwoman after just one season.
Earlier this year, Rose confirmed that she would not be returning to the show for season two. Months later, she has finally revealed the reason that she decided to leave the show. As it turns out, her exit was a result of pushing herself too hard after her surgery.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Rose said: “Being the lead of a superhero show is tough. Being the lead in anything is tough. But I think, in that particular instance, it was a lot more difficult because I was still recovering from my surgery.
“I had my surgery and then 10 days later I went to work, which maybe wasn’t the best idea. Most people take about a month or three off before they return to work, so it was definitely made more difficult by that. But as far as being a lead of a show or a film — regardless if it’s action or if it’s emotional — in whichever ways it’s taxing.”
Rose also shared that starring on the show was a huge accomplishment and that she is “grateful” for everything they achieved.
Nonetheless, Rose made the decision to leave the show in order to take time to fully heal and recover from the intensity of filming during recovery. Although she says she will “return to TV soon,” for now, she is rightly looking after her mental and physical health.
