James Vanderbilt’s next film will take us to the infamous German city of Nuremberg, and its cast will be as star-studded as it gets. Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, and Michael Shannon will play key roles in this historical drama, set during the Nuremberg trials.

Based on Jack El Hai’s book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist, Nuremberg will center on American psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (Malek), who found himself in a complex battle of wits with Hitler’s right-hand man Hermann Göring (Crowe), after being tasked to determine whether Nazi prisoners are fit to stand trial for their war crimes.

Vanderbilt is coming on board as writer and director, and he can’t wait to head to Hungary in February to shoot this promising historical drama.

“What an absolute honor it is to be working with such a tremendously talented group of actors. Our partners at Bluestone and Walden have been incredibly supportive, and I cannot wait to bring this amazing true story to the screen,” said Vanderbilt in a statement.

Russell Crowe starred in The Pope’s Exorcist earlier this year, and we’ll soon see him in Kraven the Hunter. Rami Malek made a memorable cameo in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and will next star in the spy thriller The Amateur. As for Michael Shannon, he recently reteamed with Jeff Nichols for The Bikeriders, in addition to being attached to Joshua Oppenheimer’s The End.
