Ridley Scott is currently plotting the Gladiator sequel, but the biggest star of the original film won’t be back for another ride. Russell Crowe will sit this one out, but he revealed that he’s “slightly jealous” to not be a part of the upcoming sequel.

Crowe is currently busy promoting his new film The Pope’s Exorcist, but that didn’t stop him from discussing how he feels about the new Gladiator movie during a recent interview with Collider.

“I mean, look, the only thing that I really feel about it is slightly jealous, you know? Because I was a much younger man, obviously, and it was a huge experience in my life. It changed the way people regarded me and what I do for a living,” he explained.

The Australian actor, also said that Gladiator still holds a special place in his heart because “you don’t always get that kind of longevity with every film you do.”

Gladiator came out in 2000, and it ended up winning five Academy Awards, including best picture and best lead actor for Crowe. Its sequel has been in development for years, but Ridley Scott is finally getting serious about this project, and he already cast Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, and Barry Keoghan in key roles.
