The Book Of Ruth is set to star Ruth Wilson and Matt Bomer as the leads.

The film is based on the true story of Ruth Coker Burks (Wilson), a devout Christian single mother and divorcée from Arkansas who becomes an activist and caregiver for people suffering from AIDS in 1980s America.

Bomer will play the handsome gay neighbor who moved to New York so he could be out, but he returns back to Arkansas after his partner dies from AIDS.

Michael Arden, who was nominated for two Tony Awards as a theater director will helm The Book Of Ruth, making it his feature film debut.

When talking about the project Arden said, “It’s a great honor and privilege to tell this important story about the responsibility one human has to another, especially in a time of crisis. As a gay man, I feel that Ruth’s story of empathy in the face of great prejudice and adversary is one so needed in our modern time.”

Shooting is scheduled to start this year.
