After giving us two successful franchises with Black Panther and Creed, Ryan Coogler set his eyes on his next big project. According to The X-Files creator Chris Carter, the acclaimed filmmaker is currently plotting a new version of the iconic sci-fi series.

Carter discussed Coogler’s involvement on the CBC podcast On the Coast with Gloria Macarenko, saying, “I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast. So, he’s got his work cut out for him because we covered so much territory.”

This project is still in the very early stages of development, and Coogler and the 20th Television are yet to confirm it. Coogler is fresh off the success of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and we’re patiently awaiting his next move after this film received five Oscar nominations.

The X-Files is celebrating its 30th anniversary later this year, and its popularity hasn’t faded away since its premiere in 1993. The original series starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson stayed on the air for nine seasons and saw them playing special FBI agents dealing with unsolved cases involving the paranormal.

The X-Files returned for two more revival seasons in 2016 and 2018, and it spawned two feature films – The X-Files from 1998 and The X-Files: I Want to Believe from 2008.
