If you like watching Ryan Gosling play complex characters with a mysterious vibe, his next project is just the thing you’re looking for. The Oscar-nominated star is set to play the lead role and produce the upcoming drama The Actor.

Based on Donald E. Westlake’s novel Memory, this project will focus on Paul Cole, who is left to rebuild his life and piece back together with his damaged memory after being beaten and left for dead in the streets of 1950s Ohio.

The movie will be based on Stephen Cooney’s script, and it’s set to be directed by the Oscar-nominated filmmaker Duke Johnson. In addition to playing the lead, Gosling will also produce the project alongside Ken Kao of Waypoint Entertainment.

The Actor sounds like one of the gritty projects Gosling used to make during the early 2010s when he collaborated on Drive and Only God Forgives with Nicolas Winding Refn. It’s only one of his many movies in development, as he’s also working on action thriller The Gray Man, horror film Wolfman, and sci-fi flick Project Hail Mary.
