Ryan Murphy Opens Up About The Downfall of “Glee”

Ryan Murphy, the creator of Glee, has spoken out about the show’s drop in quality.

Glee aired its final episode in March 2015, by which point the show had lost its critical acclaim after its successful opening in 2009.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Murphy discussed the drop in viewership as the seasons went on.

“My favorite seasons of Glee were 1 and 2. We really created them in a bubble, and we didn’t care what other people thought, and we made it for us,” he said. “And then what happened with me is, the show became a phenomenon.”

“It was the first time ever that I got sucked into that fan social media stuff. Then, you would read about who people would like, and I think that I lost my way a little bit.”
In relation to his brand new TV show Pose, Murphy said:
“If I was influenced by those other things, then I don’t think [writer/producers] Steven Canals and Janet Mock and Our Lady J would ever let me, anyway,” Murphy revealed. “So I feel like there’s just more checks and balances in place with this show.”
Pose is a dance musical set in the 1980s and the first episode aired earlier this week (June 3).
