Ryan Murphy’s “Ratched” Starring Sarah Paulson Gets Premiere Date

Almost three years after Netflix ordered a two-season, straight-to-series order for Ryan Murphy’s Ratched, the series is finally getting a premiere date and first look images.

Ryan Murphy’s asylum drama series is inspired by Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and it’s set to premiere on September 18.

Ratched is set in 1947 Northern California, 15 years before the film took place, where Mildred Ratched (Sarah Paulson) lands a job as a nurse at a psychiatric hospital. We’ll see the nurse’s first days on the job and how she navigates the mental healthcare system. The series will show her journey to becoming a head nurse and the villain of Ken Kessey’s 1962 novel.

The origin story was created by Evan Romansky and it also stars Sharon Stone, Cynthia Nixon, Finn Wittrock, Jon Jon Briones, Charlie Carver, Judy Davis, Harriet Harris, Hunter Parrish, Amanda Plummer, Corey Stoll, Sophie Okonedo, and Vincent D’Onofrio.

Louise Fletcher played the original Nurse Ratched in the 1975 film version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which also starred Jack Nicholson, and she won an Oscar for the role.
