Ted Lasso showed us what it would be like if an inexperienced American coach had to lead an English soccer club and Welcome to Wrexham is taking things up a notch. This docu-series shows Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney trying to take over a struggling Welsh soccer club.

Unlike Ted Lasso, the story of Welcome to Wrexham is very much real. Back in 2020, Reynolds (Deadpool) and McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) joined forces to buy the 5th-tier Red Dragons in the hopes of turning the club into an underdog story the whole world could root for… despite having no experience in football or working with each other.

Welcome to Wrexham will follow the two Hollywood stars as they try to navigate running the third oldest professional football club in the world, and try to connect and bring some serious change to the community in the tiny, working-class town in North Wales.

Reynolds and McElhenney are both known for their comedic projects, and the first trailer for Welcome to Wrexham doesn’t lack humor, but it’s first and foremost a heartfelt story of hope and perseverance. It will launch on FX on August 24, after the network made a two-season order last year. It will stream on Hulu in the U.S. and internationally on Disney+ the next day.
