After giving us one of the best miniseries of 2020 with Normal People, Sally Rooney is ready for its follow-up. BBC and Hulu are adapting her debut novel Conversations with Friends, and its cast will be led by Alison Oliver, Sasha Lane, Joe Alwyn, and Jemima Kirke.

Conversations with Friends will center on the lives of two Dublin college students, best friends, and former lovers—Frances (Oliver) and Bobbi (Lane). Their lives take an unexpected turn after they forge a connection with an enigmatic married couple, Melissa (Kirke) and Nick (Alwyn).

Just like Normal People, this adaptation will be directed by Lenny Abrahamson, who will also serve as the executive producer alongside Rooney. Alice Birch will also return as one of the primary writers, after scoring a screenwriting Emmy nomination together with Rooney.

Like the stars of Normal People, Alison Oliver is a newcomer to the scene, but she’ll be in good company. Jemima Kirke got a lot of TV experience during her time on HBO’s Girls, while Sasha Lane recently appeared in Utopia and she’s set to star in Marvel’s Loki. Joe Alwyn’s credits include roles in Oscar-nominated movies The Favourite and Harriet.
