Netflix has been swearing by a straight-to-series model for over a decade, but it seems like a major shift might be underway. The streaming giant will explore the pilot development model with their first pilot Little Sky, a single-camera comedy starring Samara Weaving.

Little Sky will follow Penelope Paul Porter, who’s on a quest to realize her lifelong dream of being a respected on-air news reporter, despite not being equipped for the job. After learning that the Mayor of Little Sky is missing, she heads to this remote town looking for her next big story in an attempt to prove herself and make her dream come true.

Pilots have long been the staple of the network development model, but Netflix is yet to explore this concept. Little Sky seemed to be the perfect series to be developed this way because Netflix executives wanted to see a pilot “to make sure the tone and the chemistry of the large ensemble were right”, according to Deadline.

In addition to playing the lead role, Samara Weaving will also executive produce the pilot, which hails from creator and director Rightor Doyle (Down Low). Weaving most recently appeared in Scream VI, but her filmography also includes roles in Ready or Not, The Babysitter, Babylon, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
