Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is one of the biggest hip-hop legends of his generation, and he’s set to receive a special honor at the upcoming BET Awards. The hip-hop icon will be bestowed with the honorary BET Lifetime Achievement Award.

Diddy is following in the footsteps of Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige, who received this award reserved for veteran artists who have made notable contributions to the music industry, seen as transformative leaders responsible for shaping the culture through their careers.

BET CEO Scott Mills described Diddy as someone who exemplifies Black excellence, adding that his virtuosity is matched only by his range – from music to media, culture, business, and philanthropy.

“Diddy has always been a pioneering force in our community, breaking barriers, achieving unprecedented heights, blazing new trails, and, in so doing, raising the bar for all of us,” said Mills in a statement.

The 2022 BET Awards are set to take place on June 26 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Taraji P. Henson will return as a host for the second year in a row. Doja Cat topped this year’s list of nominations with a total of six nods, and she was closely followed by Drake and Ari Lennox with four each.
