After many twists and turns over the past five years, Search Party is nearing its swan song. The critically acclaimed black comedy series is coming back to HBO Max for its fifth season this winter, but this will also be its final chapter.

In addition to announcing the show’s ending, HBO Max also shared some details about the upcoming season and gave us a first look at things to come. After four seasons of messy private investigations, murder and cover-up, and a sensational trial followed by kidnapping, the new season will see Dory (Alia Shawkat) trying to move on from her near-death experience by entering a business partnership with charismatic tech billionaire Tunnel Quinn (Jeff Goldblum).

Search Party initially premiered on TBS and moved to HBO Max in season 3. This streaming service renewed it for the fifth season back in February, and also struck a two-year overall deal with its creators Charles Rogers and Sarah-Violet Bliss.

“We are thrilled that HBO Max has not only given the world the fifth season of Search Party, but also shown this much faith in our partnership with them as we develop new projects for the platform,” said the duo in an official statement.

Search Party will return to HBO Max on January 7th, 2022 and it will also star John Reynolds, John Early, and Meredith Hagner.
