There was a lot of buzz surrounding the new season of Ted Lasso, and a lot of people tuned in to watch it once it finally premiered. The first episode of Season 2 set several major records for Apple TV+ and had the biggest premiere day and largest opening weekend on this streaming service.

According to Apple’s reports, the viewership for the opening weekend of Ted Lasso’s second season was six times bigger than the opening weekend for its first. In addition to helping Apple TV+ grow its new viewers by 50%, this series also helped boost viewership for several other comedies on this platform, such as Physical and Mythic Quest.

Ted Lasso centers on a happy-go-lucky American football coach, played by Jason Sudeikis, who is recruited to coach a struggling English Premier League team despite the fact he has zero experience with this sport. In addition to Sudeikis, the series also stars Hannah Waddingham, Brendan Hunt, Jeremy Swift, Brett Goldstein, and Juno Temple.

Since its premiere in 2020, Ted Lasso was met with positive reviews and received several major awards. It’s currently in the running for 20 Emmy Awards, including the best comedy series.
