Yellowjackets went from a surprise sleeper hit to one of Showtime’s most popular new shows, and its streaming numbers reflect that. The thriller series is back for its second season, and its premiere attracted nearly two million viewers to break Showtime’s streaming record.

Yellowjackets centers on members of a high school girl soccer team, who must do everything in their power to survive a devastating plane crash and deal with its consequences as grown-ups. Season 1 of this show received seven Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including a nod for outstanding drama series.

Yellowjackets returned to Showtime for Season 2 on March 26 and immediately knocked it out of the park. With nearly two million people tuning in, it reportedly set Showtime’s new streaming record and delivered the best debut for a second season on this network in over 10 years.

Showtime’s president and CEO, Chris McCarthy, confirmed the news in an official statement and praised the show’s creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, showrunner Jonathan Lisco, and extraordinary ensemble cast for bringing Season 2 to even greater heights.

“We successfully broadened the reach and brought new viewers into this incredible series that deftly combines psychological horror, dark comedy, and coming-of-age drama,” said McCarthy in a statement.
