Mindhunter is one of Netflix’s best and most popular shows but its future is now on limbo. Season 3 has been put on indefinite hold because its producer and director David Fincher isn’t able to fully commit to it right now.
Despite the fact Mindhunter was created by Joe Penhall, Fincher was one of the driving creative forces behind this project. The Netflix bosses felt it’s time to release the cast from their contracts since it’s unclear when he’ll be able to come back on board again.
“David is focused on directing his first Netflix film Mank and on producing the second season of Love, Death and Robots. He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own,” said a Netflix spokesperson in a statement.
This doesn’t necessarily mean we’re saying goodbye to Mindhunter for good. The series is currently on an indefinite hiatus, but there’s a chance it could return in the future.
Mindhunter followed a group of FBI agents trying to solve open cases by conducting interviews with serial killers, and it starred Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv.
