Selena Gomez and The Weeknd are not a thing anymore. According to People, the couple has decided to split up after spending 10 months together.
“She and Abel have been going back and forth for a few months about their relationship,” – an inside source has told the People. “It’s been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn’t easy on them.”
The source cites The Weeknd’s touring and absence as a major part of why the relationship didn’t work. Despite the breakup, the two still remain in touch.
The rumors about Gomez and The Weeknd being together started in January when the two were spotted kissing during a romantic dinner. The first reports described the romance as “new and nothing serious.” The couple then traveled to Italy together, before visiting The Weeknd’s hometown. In May, the two decided to make it official, appearing as a couple on the Met Gala event. The romance showed no signs of stopping, with Selena’s mother giving her approval to the relationship. In the past couple of months, however, the couple became distant and that ultimately proved to be the determining factor in the end of their romance.
“It’s been hard for them to come to the realization that this is the direction things were heading, but it’s been hard for months,” – continued the insider, while confirming that Selena hasn’t got back together with her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.
Recently, Selena and Justin visited a church together, and have been spending time with each other on multiple occasions. Bieber was also spotted leaving Selena’s house just hours after the news about her breakup with The Weeknd surfaced.
Justin and Selena started dating in 2011 and have been on and off until 2015. Their relationship was tense after the breakup, but have been on good terms after Selena underwent a kidney transplant.
