Selena Gomez’s new album Rare was a long time coming, and she got it right where it belongs – the no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart!

Gomez is no stranger to having her albums reach the top of the charts as she managed to the same with her records Stars Dance and Revival, but the success of Rare carries more weight since it took her five years to release it and it’s her most personal album to date.

The process of writing and recording this album was empowering for the young singer, and she wanted it to have the same effect on everyone who listens to it. “It was a way of me hoping I could just be a voice for people who are in the same situation I’m in – whether it’s something mentally that people struggle with or relationships, friendships, I wanted to be as honest as I could,” Gomez told Jimmy Fallon during an appearance on his show.

Rare was a huge success for the former Disney star even before it hit the shelves on January 10th, and became her third chart-topper. It gave us hit singles “Look at Her Now” and “Lose You to Love Me”, which became Gomez’s first song to ever reach no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
