Selena Gomez has gifted us with some epic ballads, but the singer is now promising something a little lighter.

It has been a rough road for the 30-year-old singer who has battled with lupus disease, a kidney transplant, bipolar disorder, and episodes of psychosis. Gomez has been incredibly open about her health struggles, telling Rolling Stone, “It took a lot of hard work for me to (a) accept that I was bipolar, but (b) learn how to deal with it because it wasn’t going to go away.”

The artist’s state of mind has been evident in her music with songs such as “Lose You to Love Me” and “My Mind & Me” which she wrote to coincide with the release of her documentary of the same name.

The track won the Film Song of the Year award at Variety’s Hitmakers ceremony where she confirmed that her new music will have a different tone.

“I am so happy, and you’re going to be so happy when you hear the music, I promise,” Gomez said while on the red carpet. “I want everyone to feel good when they hear the new record.”

Although no date has been announced, the Grammy nominee previously revealed that she has written 24 songs for her upcoming album.
