Biopics inspired by beloved music icons are all the rage these days, and Linda Ronstadt is the latest star to get the Hollywood treatment. After months of rumors about her potential casting, Selena Gomez confirmed she’ll play the iconic singer in the upcoming biopic.
Rumors about Gomez’s potential involvement first emerged back in July, and she added some more fuel to the fire by posting a photo of Ronstadt’s memoir on her Instagram story. Just a few hours later, The Rolling Stone confirmed her casting in the upcoming biopic.
This promising project will be based on Ronstadt’s memoir Simple Dreams, and it’s still looking for a writer, director, and additional cast. Ronstadt’s longtime manager John Boylan and Linda and the Mockingbirds director James Keach are producing, with Gomez coming on board as an executive producer.
The news of Gomez’s casting in this project comes shortly after the Only Murders in the Building star revealed she’s considering taking a break from music to focus on other creative endeavors.
“The older I get, the more I’m kind of like, I would like to find something to just settle on… I do feel like I have one more album in me but I would probably choose acting,” said Gomez during a recent appearance on the SmartLess podcast.
