It’s been years since Selena Gomez starred in Wizards of Waverly Place, and she’s finally ready to give TV another shot. The singer recently landed one of the lead roles in the upcoming Hulu comedy series Only Murders in the Building.

This promising project will also star Steve Martin and Martin Short, who’ll serve as executive producers alongside Gomez. It will follow three strangers who share a strange fixation for true crime, but they start questioning their obsession after finding themselves wrapped up in one.

Only Murders in the Building received a straight-to-series order, and Hulu’s head of originals Craig Erwich has high hopes for this series.

“I heard the pitch on Wednesday, and it was the best hour I had all week. It’s really special, surprisingly emotional. It’s really modern and self-referential about podcasts and murders, it’s got some great surprises. When they pull this off, it’s going to be really special,” Erwich told Deadline.

Only Murders in the Building will mark Gomez’s return to television, but she did star in several big-screen projects since Wizards of Waverly Place went off the air. Her filmography includes Spring Breakers, Fundamentals of Caring, and a voice role in the Hotel Transylvania series.
