Best female tennis player in history, Serena Williams, and her boyfriend, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian are officially married. The pair said “I do” on Thursday at a ceremony held in New Orleans. According to the reports, one of the biggest showbiz weddings of the year featured 200 guests and had a Beauty and the Beast theme.
The guest list was full of celebrities including Serena’s sister Venus Williams, Kelly Rowland, Ciara, Russell Wilson, La La Anthony, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and Eva Longoria. The guests were asked to turn their phones and not to take pictures, due to an exclusive contract with Vogue. The wedding reportedly cost around $1 million.
Serena and Alexis met in May 2015 in Rome when Alexis sat at the table next to Serena at Hotel Cavalieri Hilton. After Serena failed to scare Alexis away by telling him there is a rat under his chair, she asked him to join her table. A month later, Alexis showed up at French Open after Serena invited him to see her play and that’s when they had their first date.
The pair kept their relationship low-key, but in April 2016, Alexis said that Serena is “the one” and that she makes him a better person.
“I felt like a door had been opened to a person who made me want to be my best self,” – Alexis told Vanity Fair at the time. “I find myself just wanting to be better by simply being around her because of the standard she holds.”
He popped the question in December 2016, at the same table they met almost year and a half ago. Shortly after, in the April 2017, it was revealed that Serena is pregnant. In September, Serena gave birth to their baby girl named Alexis Olympia Ohanian, Jr.
