With productions shutting down and theaters closing due to the ongoing pandemic, another project has made the jump to a digital platform. An American Pickle is officially heading to HBO Max after the streamer acquired the film’s worldwide rights from Sony Pictures.

The film is an adaptation of the New Yorker series titled Sell Out by Simon Rich. The film stars Seth Rogen in dual leading roles as Herschel Greenbaum, a laborer who immigrates to America in 1920 and his 2020s great-grandson. Attached to direct is Brandon Trost from a script by Rich.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be partnering with HBO Max to release this film,” Rogen said. “We worked very hard and put as much of ourselves in this story as possible. We’re very proud of the end result and we can’t wait for people to get to see it.”
