TV series based on the 2014’s comedy horror mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows received a 10-episode series order from FX. The network ordered a pilot for the series three months ago, and it looks like it was good enough for them to commit to the first season.

Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi directed, wrote and starred in the original, which followed three vampires who have been roommates for hundreds of years. The duo will also work on the television series, with Clement writing and Waititi serving as a director. The half-hour comedy is set to premiere in 2019.

FX also revealed the cast for the What We Do in the Shadows television series which will include Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, and Harvey Guillen.

“What We Do in the Shadows only gets better with age thanks to this brilliant adaptation for television by co-creators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi,” said Nick Grad, president of originals at FX. “Their feature version was a hilarious, fresh take on the mundanity of everyday life that even immortals must face. We are thankful to them, Paul Simms and Scott Rudin (producers), and this amazing cast for taking us deeper into the shadows with this series.”

Clement and Waititi made What We Do in the Shadows for just $1.6 million and the movie ended up earning $6.9 million at the box office. It became a critics favorite, calling it “a great vampire comedy” and “smarter, fresher, and funnier than a modern vampire movie has any right to be.” Reportedly a sequel titled We’re Wolves is in the works and would focus on the werewolves characters depicted in the original movie.
