It’s the end of the game for Shakira and Gerard Piqué.

The couple, who have two children together, have confirmed that they are ending their 12-year relationship.

The pair met in 2010, just prior to the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The “Waka Waka” singer performed the anthem for the global event, and the footballer starred in the music video, along with other players.

Piqué apparently told the Colombian artist, “I am going to win this World Cup so that we can see each other at the finals.” He kept his word as Spain took the trophy.

Shakira and Piqué (who happen to share a birthday 10 years apart) went public with their relationship the following year, and welcomed their son, Milan, in 2013. Two years later, Shakira gave birth to the couple’s second son, Sasha.

It seems all good things come to an end, however, as the former lovebirds confirmed their split in a joint statement over the weekend.

“We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”
