Shakira has countless awards in her impressive collection and she’s getting ready to add another one to the mix. She’ll be honored with Billboard’s very first Latin Woman of the Year award at the upcoming Latin Women in Music Gala.

The Latin Women in Music Gala will celebrate Latin female artists, executives, and creatives whose work had a positive impact on inclusion and gender parity in the music industry. The list of award recipients at the inaugural event will also include Ana Gabriel, Emilia, Evaluna, Goyo, and Thalia.

Leila Cobo, Billboard’s chief content officer for Latin/Español, described Shakira as “the ultimate woman in music” who forged the path for many artists after her.

“Thanks to her, Latin women all over the world have been empowered to write and perform deeply personal music. She created a movement all on her own, and continues to be more relevant than ever today, with grace, a deep tradition of giving back, and enormous talent,” said Cobo.

2023 is turning out to be another landmark year for Shakira, who set several major records with her smash hit “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”. This viral bop broke 14 Guinness World Records and became the most-streamed Latin track in 24 hours on both YouTube and Spotify.
