The swamp living ogre and sword-wielding feline are back!

According to Variety. the hugely successful animated film franchise Shrek and its equally successful spin-off Puss in Boots are getting rebooted.

Despicable Me’s Chris Meledandri who is also the CEO of Illumination Entertainment has been tasked with reintroducing the beloved characters to our screens by Comcast who purchased DreamWorks Animation, the studio behind Shrek in 2016.

While Meledandri still hasn’t worked out the new plot, he does know that he’s looking to get the original gang of voice actors back together, which means we might get Mike Meyers’s Shrek, Eddie Murphy’s Donkey, Antonio Banderas’s Puss in Boots and Cameron Diaz’s Princess Fiona back in action.

“When you look back on those vocal performances they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations,” Meledandri tells Variety. “The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply yet another film in a series of sequels.”
