American singer Mario, best known for his 2004 hit “Let Me Love You,” is joining the cast of Fox’s music drama Empire. The 32-year-old will join this favorite TV show in a recurring role for season five, which is scheduled to premiere on September 26th.

According to Billboard, Mario will portray Devon, a character described by the Fox “an earnest, up-and-coming R&B singer who supports his ailing sister.” Devon will find himself in the middle of a bidding war between Empire label and Lyon Family Management, with both companies desperate to sign him.

Although better known for his music career, this won’t be the first time Mario steps in front of cameras. He made his film debut back in 2006 when he played a DJ named Miles Darby in romantic dance movie Step Up. Mario then starred as a lead in 2007’s drama Freedom Writers and went on to appear in just two films since, with the last one coming in 2012. When it comes to television, he had a guest role on Love That Girl! in 2014.

Mario decided to make a comeback in the music world and is about to release his first album since 2009. The record, titled Dancing Shadows, represents his fifth studio effort.
