Sofia Vergara never had any trouble making us laugh, but her next project will see her stepping on the dark side. Netflix dropped the first trailer for Griselda, which sees the Modern Family star transform into Griselda Blanco, who ran one of the most notorious Colombian cartels with an iron fist.
Blanco used a lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm to rule the Miami underworld during the 70s and 80s. Here’s what the series about her life has in store, according to Netflix’s official synopsis:
“Sofia Vergara transforms in this series, inspired by Griselda Blanco, a woman who rose from obscurity to become ‘the Godmother’ of the underworld. Witness her lethal blend of charm and ruthlessness in this captivating series.”
In addition to Vergara, Griselda will also star Alberto Guerra, Alberto Ammann, Christian Tappan, Diego Trujillo, Paulina Davila, Gabriel Sloyer, Martin Rodriguez, José Zúñiga, Maximiliano Hernández, and Julieth Restrepo.
Andrés Baiz directed all six episodes of this series, set to premiere on Netflix on January 25, 2024. Baiz also serves as the show’s executive producer alongside his Narcos and Narcos: Mexico collaborator Eric Newman, who co-created this series with Carlo Bernard, Doug Miro, and Ingrid Escajeda. Vergara will also be credited as one of the show’s producers.
