The battle of the CGIs: The Call of the Wild came close but in the end, it didn’t manage to surpass Sonic the Hedgehog in the box office and the speedster remains on top of the list for another week.
The new Jack London adaptation, featuring a CGI dog playing alongside Harrison ford, opened strong on Friday with $7 million in tickets, surpassing Sonic that made $6.2 million. But by the end of the weekend, the blue hedgehog gathered some speed and finished with a $26.3 million revenue compared with The Call of the Wild‘s $24 Million.
Overall, Sonic earned more than $203 million worldwide with $106 million in domestic theaters. These results indicate a possible sequel in the future. Call of the Wild’s opening was decent enough but it has a bigger budget to make back so it will take time to turn a profit.
The third-place this week went to Birds of Prey which made 7 million dollars. This week’s second new entry, the horror flick Brahms: The Boy II, made $5.9 million.
